Seven defendants entered guilty pleas on Thursday in Carbon County court to driving under the influence or related counts.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas from the following:Louis Lindsey Jr., 21, of Freeland, Luzerne County, pleaded to two counts of DUI in two pending cases.He was arrested on April 1, 2016, along Route 903 in Jim Thorpe by state police at Lehighton; and on June 18, 2016, by state police along Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township. In both cases a test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred because Lindsey needs a drug and alcohol evaluation and he also wants to apply for placement in the Intermediate Punishment Program-house arrest.Joshua David Lawrence, 22, of Lehighton, also pleaded to counts of receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia in addiction to DUI.He was arrested for DUI on March 20, 2016, by state police at Lehighton along Route 903 in Jim Thorpe. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was arrested on the receiving charge on Oct. 5, 2014, by Mahoning Township police for an incident at the McDonald's restaurant. He admitted stealing $100 from the purse of a fellow employee of the restaurant, where he also worked. The drug counts stems from an April 19, 2016, incident that occurred in the200 block of South First Street, filed by Lehighton. In that case he was originally charged with seven counts of possession of paraphernalia.Sentencing was deferred because Lawrence needs a drug and alcohol evaluation on the DUI charge.WhittneyMarie Hibbler, 28, of Lehighton, was arrested on June 11, 2016, along Mahoning Street by Mahoning Township police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. Police responded to an accident in which Hibbler was involved.Sentencing was deferred because Hibbler needs a drug and alcohol evaluation.John Aloysius Doyle III, 43, of Lehighton, was arrested on April 20, 2016, along Second Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.14 BAC.A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300, render 25 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation and follow any recommendations of his drug and alcohol evaluation.Jean Marion Haydt, 49, of Lehighton, was arrested on Sept. 25, 2015, by state police at Lehighton along First Street in Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. She was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for violating conditions.Sentencing was deferred so Haydt can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.John Hower Jr., 32, of Lehighton, was arrested on Aug. 22, 2016, by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Hower can apply for the IPP.Robert Wayne Hess, 48, of Kunkletown, was arrested on June 7, 2016, along Blue Mountain Drive in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.24 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so Hess can apply for the IPP.Alan Michael Phillips, 28, of Effort, was arrested on Sept. 2, 2016, along Route 534 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed a 0.11 BAC.He was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension, render 25 hours of community service and follow any recommendations of his drug and alcohol evaluation.He will begin the jail term at 5 p.m. on July 14 and serve two days; July 28, two days; and Aug. 6, one day.
