This Saturday at 1 p.m., the featured film, shown in the community room, will be "Mrs. Doubtfire" (PG-13).Garden's harvestThe Garden of Giving in McMichaels has been busy harvesting such items as organic eggplant, green peppers, parsley, basil, raspberries, green beans and also eggs for local food pantries.A volunteer work day is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday. The celebration, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, will include honoring the church's senior members, 80 years and older, with a small gift.The church will be putting together a time capsule and placing it in the basement to be opened in 25 years. Included will be advertisements on current movies, sale prices, car prices, house prices, art from the children, and special notes, along with various anniversary bulletins and United Methodist newsletters.The Rev. Edward A. Unangst is supplying the refreshments after the worship, and his sermon will be on his favorite food, the humble hot dog.All activities are open to the public. It is also the general church cleanup day.Food pantry hoursThe Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. This church ministry is to help feed families going through emergency or other short-term situations who are not eligible for local, county or state programs. It is limited to a 12-week duration per family. Required is a valid driver's license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End.Bereavement GroupOur Lady Queen of Peace Church has a bereavement group. It will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the rooms next to the Chapel (114A & B). The support group is free and open to anyone in the community who is dealing with the loss of a loved one.KSH meetsThe Keep Sunday Holy ecumenical group met on Sept. 18. It will next meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 16, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cafe (Chapel entrance) in Gilbert.
