Wolf will bring higher gas prices

Dear Editor,

An article in the Oct. 9 edition predicted that the price of natural gas will go down.It may, but not for long if Tom Wolf is elected governor and he is able to convince the state Legislature to pass an extraction tax on Pennsylvania natural gas he is suggesting.Everyone knows corporations cannot absorb higher taxes. All costs of doing business must be passed on to the consumers or they could go bankrupt. The increased price of natural gas will not affect only those homeowners and businesses that heat with it, but all users of natural gas.Nearly all third-stage electrical generation in Pennsylvania uses natural gas, and much of the second-stage electrical generation is now using it.PPL obtained a permit to build a second nuclear plant, but with Pennsylvania natural gas so cheap, they are not going to build another first-stage nuclear plant. They are going to build a natural gas-fired generating power plant.Every manufacturer and business in Pennsylvania that uses natural gas will need to pass on their increased costs of doing business to their consumers. Ironically, even the price of gasoline and diesel fuel will go up because electricity is used to pump gasoline and diesel into our cars and fuel trucks.Sincerely,Frank WaltonTamaqua
