Volunteers thanked by council for helping in Weissport

Weissport Council's meeting on Monday night might have been brief, but during the minutes that council convened, council member Arland Moyer took the time to thank people who helped clear the park of fallen leaves and help to build the community playground.

Moyer thanked his son, Arland Jr.; Pete Pywar, husband of council vice president, Sue Pywar; and Gene Kershner, incoming council member, along with Duane Dellecker and Bob Maholick, for their help in taking down the huge pile of leaves in the park.Moyer said Dellecker, who is in charge of the county's reclycing program, recently purchased a leaf truck and that he was interested in seeing how well it worked and wanted to see how fast it achieved picking up leaves.Moyer said that Dellecker needed the information so that he could possibly offer the machine as rental equipment to communities. The leaf blower was used in Weissport at no cost to the borough.Moyer then also thanked several of the volunteers who are building the community playground, without directly naming anyone in particular.Mayor Tina Hagenbuch said that wanted to share her concern for missing person Sharon Weaver. Hagenbuch said she has joined the search party several times and that the group of about 30 people have spread their search along the Lehigh River as far as Laury's Station. She said that with the holidays approaching the family is heartbroken over her loss.Hagenbuch noted that someone has come forward to tell police that he believes he saw Weaver leave the bar and make a left turn when she left the bar area. Most searches had believed that she had headed toward her home in Weissport, which would have been a right turn.Hagenbuch said that Weaver suffered from a seizure disorder that would have made her appear drunk, which would compromise her safety.Weaver has been missing since around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, where she had been last seen at the Boathouse Bar. She is 5 feet three inches tall and about 210 pounds. She has short blond hair. She was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt with large buttons.Council also announced that it would be reviewing applications for a borough worker. After a brief executive session, council accepted the resignation of Nate Leslie.Council will be formally adopted the 2010 budget on Nov. 30.
