Less than a handful of residents have stepped forward to help form a crime watch group in West Penn Township.

Township supervisors said three people have volunteered to serve on the township's crime watch.Supervisor Anthony Prudenti said the time to form such a group is now."If we want to get something, let's do it," Prudenti said. "If not, let's not waste time."Prudenti then questioned whether the township should be putting police log items in the newspaper."I think we owe it to the people of the township," he said. "I think a police log is a great idea."Supervisor Ted Bogosh asked board solicitor Holly Heintzelman her opinion on the matter.Heintzelman told the board she believes such a decision is entirely dependent on what the board chooses to do.Supervisors' Chairman James Dean said last month the purpose of the crime watch is to "begin to look at ways to promoting safety in our various communities."Anyone who would like to volunteer for the group may contact the township secretary and discuss their interest and availability.In May, several residents voiced concerns to the board about crimes they say have occurred throughout the township.
