Mahoning Township police have charged a Tamaqua man with shoplifting from the Walmart store.

John Smith II, 25, was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property.According to a news release from Chief Audie Mertz, police were called to the store at 2:41 p.m. Jan. 2, and were told by loss prevention staff that Smith had stolen $30.54 in merchandise earlier that day, then returned.It turns out Smith had a warrant against him filed by the Schuylkill County Adult Probation Department. Police placed him in Carbon County prison on the warrant.
