Carbon County court — DUI

Eight defendants entered guilty pleas on Friday to driving under the influence charges.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:

Lucas W. Arndt

, 27, of Summit Hill, was arrested on Aug. 20 by Summit Hill police along Route 902. A test revealed a 0.20 BAC.

A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.

John Michael Stefanski

, 48, of Clifton Township, Lackawanna County, was arrested on Oct. 24, 2015, along Route 903 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. He refused a test.

He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300, render 25 hours of community service and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.

Jose Luis Ramos

, 34, of Allentown, was arrested on Aug. 20, 2016, along Route 248 at Bowmanstown by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred because he needs a drug and alcohol evaluation. He is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison on a probation violation.

Richard Thomas Ogozalek

, 54, of Lansford, was arrested on Nov. 25, 2016, along Route 209 in Lansford by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.24 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred because he needs a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Tony Allen Stoeckel

, 31, of Lansford, was arrested on May 28, 2016, along Mermon Avenue by Nesquehoning police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He also pleaded to a charge of fleeing or eluding police.

He was operating a motorcycle and fled officers at a high rate of speed before being caught.

Sentencing was deferred because he needs a drug and alcohol evaluation and will apply for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program — house arrest.

Trevor Holtz

, 29, of Freeland, was arrested on Aug. 27 by Weatherly police along Main Street. A test revealed a 0.29 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Ryan Patrick Leary

, 33, of Hellertown, Lehigh County, was arrested on July 22 along the turnpike in Kidder Township by state police at the Pocono barracks. A test revealed a 0.26 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so Leary can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.

Dylan Tyler Logan

, 19, of Hazleton, was arrested on Dec. 10, 2016, along Chestnut Street in Banks Township by state police at Hazleton. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.

He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.

Under suspension

Johnathan Burak

, 35, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of driving under suspension — DUI related. He was arrested on March 12 by Nesquehoning police along Catawissa Street following a vehicle stop.

Matika sentenced him to serve 30 to 60 days in the county prison and pay a fine of $500. He must serve the entire 60 days.

He was given credit for 40 days already served.

He is currently an inmate in the county prison on a parole violation.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
