Carbon County court — DUI

Four people entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence charges on Monday in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:

Penny Jo Zimmerman

, 47, of Lehighton, was arrested on May 28, 2017, by Franklin Township police along Main Road. She refused a test.

Sentencing was deferred so she can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and also apply for placement in the Intermediate Punishment Program — house arrest.

Jason Gregory Zsilavecz

, 42, of Bethlehem, was arrested on Jan. 21, 2017, along Route 534 in Kidder Township at Hickory Run State Park by park rangers. A test revealed a 0.29 BAC.

He was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension, render 50 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.

He was given credit for 26 days spent in an inpatient rehab facility and paroled.

Robert A. Gonzalez

, 39, of Lansford, was arrested on Jan. 2 at Patterson and Center streets by Lansford police. He refused a test.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation. He is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison on a parole violation petition.

Sherwin D. Haman Jr.

, 49, of Albrightsville, was arrested on April 2, 2016, by Mahoning Township police along Troxells Road. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.

He was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $300, one-year license suspension, render 25 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.

He will began the jail term at 5 p.m. on April 18.

Summary offenses

Thomas A. Swartz

, 38, of Elysburg, Northumberland County, pleaded to two summary motor vehicle code violations of reckless and careless driving. A DUI charge was dropped following a suppression hearing held previously.

He was arrested on Sept. 1, 2016, by state police at Lehighton along Lizard Creek Road in East Penn Township after being involved in a crash.

Matika deferred sentencing as there is a question concerning restitution.
