Casimir "Caszy" Kosciolek of Lake Hauto has announced his candidacy for re-election of Magisterial District Judge in the Carbon County Magisterial District 56-3-03, which covers the boroughs of Lansford, Nesquehoning and Summit Hill, and the townships East Penn and Mahoning.

Kosciolek, a Democrat, has filed nomination petitions to have his name appear on both the Democratic and Republican ballots in the May 16 primary election.Kosciolek will be seeking his fourth six-year term, having won previous elections in 1999, 2005 and 2011.Kosciolek is a 1981 graduate of Marian Catholic High School and is a 1982 post-graduate of Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia.He received a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice/sociology in 1986 from Bloomsburg University and became certified as a district justice by the Minor Judiciary Board in September 1999, maintaining his certification annually.Following graduation from college, Kosciolek was a professional umpire in the New York-Penn and Florida State League for four years.For five years, he worked as the Work Release and Treatment Director at the Carbon County Correctional Facility.He was actively involved in the transition from the prison on Broadway in Jim Thorpe to the current prison in Nesquehoning in 1995.For three years, he was employed by the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit as a mental health worker, providing students and their families with mental health counseling in the Carbon and Lehigh school districts.In 2004, he was inducted into the first class of the Marian Catholic High School Hall of Fame and the class of 2013 Carbon County Hall of Fame for his accomplishments of playing sports in high school and college.He has coached high school basketball locally for many years and high school football for a decade. He is currently a high school assistant basketball coach at Lehighton.He is married to the former Betteanne Lucko of Bear Creek Lakes, Penn Forest Township. The couple has two children: Brett, 20, and Carly, 16.
