The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its annual picnic on July 25 at Leiby's grove. The day was filled with fun, games and refreshments.The club meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Zion Church Social Hall in Lewistown Valley.The August get-together will not be a formal meeting. Instead, members will travel to a private garden for a tour.Upcoming programs include several craft projects and a master gardener presentation, which will be held at the Sept. 26 meeting.New members are always welcome. Music will be provided by the Blue Mountain Community Church Praise Band.A freewill offering will be taken.For more information, call 570-668-1192.Middle schoolTamaqua Area Middle School Principal Chris Czapla has announced the school's summer open house will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 21, providing families with an opportunity to follow their child's schedule and meet the teachers.This is not a night for parent-teacher conferences, but such conferences may be scheduled for another date and time.Parents will also be able to learn more about the MMS student portal, student planners, Accelerated Reader and extracurricular activities.Homeroom assignments will be posted on the main doors of the school on Monday.Summer concertsThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce continues its 11th Annual Summer Concert Series this Thursday with an appearance by Diaspora, sponsored by the Schuylkill County Visitor's Bureau.Concerts are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on select Thursdays throughout the summer months with all events to be held on the platform of the Tamaqua Train Station.Additional concerts will be: Aug. 17, Greater Than 2, sponsored by St. Luke's; Aug. 24, Christopher Dean Band, sponsored by Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman.Bethany ECThe Rev.
