A former Carbon County resident pleaded guilty in six pending criminal cases on Thursday in the county court.

James V. Kutchera Jr., 29, of Philadelphia, and formerly of Lehighton and Jim Thorpe, pleaded to four counts of driving under the influence and one count each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-heroin, and theft.Kutchera was charged for drunken driving on Jan. 11, 2014, in Jim Thorpe; Nov. 21, 2013, in Palmerton by state police at Lehighton; Sept. 14, 2013, in Nesquehoning; and Nov. 14, 2014, in Jim Thorpe. In each case a test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was charged with the drug count for an incident on Jan. 30, 2014, in Lansford. Police responded to a report of an assault and the victim was taken to St. Luke's Miners Campus in Coaldale. The investigation revealed that Kutchera was in the area of West Patterson Street to conduct a drug sale with others. An argument developed between the buyers and Kutchera who was then assaulted. He was selling heroin to the others.The ones involved in the assault were also charged.The theft occurred on Nov. 22, 2013, when he took a utility trailer from a Lehighton residence. He later returned the trailer.Kutcher's attorney, Adam Weaver, said his client had a drug addiction but has addressed it. He went through two inpatient programs, including a long period in the Salvation Army program and is still receiving counseling.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II deferred sentencing because Kutcher needs a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI charges. Nanovic also ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
