Summit Hill parade lineup announced

Final plans for Carbon County's largest Memorial Day tribute the Summit Hill Memorial Day program and parade have been announced by parade committee officials and American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill.

The memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Summit Hill's Ludlow Park, where Mario Iezzoni of Summit Hill will be the keynote speaker.The traditional memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday in the St. Joseph Cemetery, White Bear, where the Rev. James Burdess, pastor, will be the speaker.After Monday's memorial service, World War II veteran Jack Bryant will serve as grand marshal of the four-division parade. Bryant will ring the former Summit Hill High School bell in the park to signal the start of the parade, which will proceed west on Ludlow Street, round St. Joseph Catholic Church and then proceed east for the entire length of White Street.Thomas Vermillion, chairman of the parade committee, said Bryant's selection as grand marshal is a fitting tribute to one of the few Summit Hill veterans who still survive the war. He said, "Jack Bryant is a wonderful choice to be this year's grand marshal. He served our country as well as our community. He was a unanimous selection by the Summit Hill American Legion and the parade committee and he humbly accepted the nomination when Greg Miller and Kevin O'Donnell, representing the Legion, visited him and his wife, Faye. It is a well-deserved honor."White Bear serviceAt the service on Sunday in White Bear, the guest speaker will be Vincent Suzadail of Summit Hill.William K. O'Donnell, commander of Post 316, will be the master of ceremonies, while Burdess will ask the invocation and pronounce the benediction.The national anthem will be sung by Kiley Boswell of Panther Valley High School.Mayor Paul McArdle will conduct the POW-MIA ceremony, followed by the welcome by O'Donnell. Three Marian High School students will participate: Annette Ritzko, Gettysburg Address; Chris Weber, Logan's General Orders; and Kyle Stanek, In Flander's Field.After Suzadail's address, Chaplain Gregory Miller will announce the roll call of veterans who have passed away since Memorial Day 2013.Post 316 members will make up the honor guard, taps will be played by a bugler from Panther Valley High School, O'Donnell will offer closing remarks and the program will close with the benediction.Monday's serviceMany of the same participants in Sunday's service will participate in the service on Monday in Ludlow Park.
