The engagement of April Bowers, Penfield, daughter of Robert and Joanne Bowers of Lehighton, to Roy Simpson, son of Michael and Carol Simpson of Penfield, has been announced by the couple and their parents.

The bride-to-be is a 2005 graduate of Lehighton Area High School. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics and adolescence education from Houghton College in 2009 and is currently employed as a seventh-grade math teacher at Clearfield Middle School in Clearfield, Pa.The prospective bridegroom is a 2005 graduate of Dubois High School; and a 2008 graduate of Lock Haven University, where he earned a bachelor of science in health science.He is employed as a residential support professional at Sayette Resources.An Oct. 2, 2010 wedding is planned.
