Palmerton’s 35th Halloween Parade set for 4 p.m. Sunday
The 35th annual Palmerton Halloween Parade will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Sponsored by the Palmerton Area Chamber of Commerce, the parade will form at 2:30 p.m. at the Seventh Street and Franklin Avenue area.
It will proceed up Seventh Street to Lafayette Avenue, where it will turn down Lafayette to Third Street. The parade will then make a left on Third Street where it will turn left onto Delaware Avenue, and return to Seventh Street.
Traffic will be rerouted from Third and Delaware Avenue onto Lehigh Avenue to come out at Seventh Street to proceed down Delaware Avenue.
Susie Arner, parade chair, said the four-division parade is always a real crowd-pleaser.
“We are pleased to announce that new to the parade are the additions of the McKay Bagpipe Band, and a grand master organ playing organ music,” Arner said. “We will also have the usual many creative floats such as local football club and cheerleading, Towamensing Soccer Club, Cub Scouts, as well as other businesses and youth groups.”
Arner said Division III will include an entry from the Palmerton Food Pantry with grocery carts moving along the parade route accepting in-date nonperishable food items to benefit the Palmerton Food Pantry and upcoming holiday food drive.
In addition, she said that for everyone’s enjoyment, there will be three locations on the parade route to grab a treat for your parade viewing time,
Arner said Large Fry will be located at Fourth and Delaware Avenue and will have fries and pierogies, while Girl Scout Troop 3305 will be in front of Bethany Wesleyan Church with walking tacos and hot chocolate.
She said also in front of Bethany Wesleyan Church at 457 Delaware Ave., the church will have hot dogs and bottled water, and that for those who are a sweet tooth person and like cold treats, Tastefully Twisted Ice cream truck will be in the Rite Aid parking lot.
Arner said late entries will be accepted up to and including Sunday afternoon, and noted that those who can’t get them in should check in at the area at Seventh and Delaware and they will be placed in the parade.
She said the parade committee would like to give a special thank you to all the parade sponsors “for their support to ensure the parade can happen.”
Arner said they include Country Harvest Family Market, Tastefully Twisted Ice Cream Truck, Hager Furniture, T.K. Thomas Funeral Home, First Northern Bank & Trust, The Neffs National Bank — Palmerton Branch, Palmerton Area Chamber of Commerce, and a special thanks to Netznik McCarty and Associates for sponsoring Forks of the Delaware Tin Lizzies.
She said candy will be distributed by people walking along the parade route, and asked spectators and children to remain on the sidewalks for everyone’s safety.
“It appears it will be somewhat of a cool day, yet sunny day,” Arner said. “We’re hoping that the current forecast is correct with lots of sunshine.”
Rain date, if needed, is Monday at 7 p.m.
