Aigeldinger captures Late Model title at MVS

Marc Aigeldinger entered the final Late Model feature of the season with a championship within reach.

He left Mahoning Valley Speedway Park with both the race victory and his second consecutive track title.

Aigeldinger, who entered the 30-lap finale eight points behind Brian Romig Jr., emerged from an action-packed race featuring side-by-side battles, multiple cautions and late-race drama to secure the victory and championship.

Geno Steigerwalt finished second, followed by Ryan Rochelle, Brian Romig Sr. and Mike Klotz. Romig Jr. was unable to finish.

The evening also featured a historic performance by brothers Cody and Shayne Geist, who captured victories in the Street Stock and Hobby Stock divisions, respectively. According to the speedway, it marked the first time since 1997 that brothers won feature events on the same night at the track.

Cody Geist led all 30 laps of the Street Stock feature, but faced plenty of pressure along the way.

Jamie Smith, Adam Steigerwalt and points leader Frankie Althouse challenged Geist throughout the race, with Steigerwalt and Althouse making multiple attempts to take the lead on the outside.

Geist turned back every challenge to earn his second Street Stock victory of the season.

Steigerwalt finished second, followed by Althouse, Randy Ahner and Geary Rinehimer.

Shayne Geist continued his dominant Hobby Stock season with another victory, giving him eight regular feature wins in 2026. Combined with a victory in the RoC Four Score 4 Cylinder Dash Series, Geist has matched his win total from last season.

Geist moved to the front early and maintained his advantage despite pressure from both Nick Schaeffer and Travis Solomon as the leaders approached lapped traffic.

Schaeffer finished second, followed by Solomon, Jared Frye and Terry Peters.

Geist will look to secure his second consecutive Hobby Stock championship when the speedway concludes its season next Saturday.

In the Modified division, Kyle Strohl was crowned the speedway’s 2026 track champion, though the weekend also brought a setback for the driver.

Strohl suffered a broken right forearm in a hard crash Saturday, according to an update shared by the speedway. Although he was able to walk away from the accident, Strohl and his team believe the car is a total loss, leaving the team’s racing future uncertain.
