The Tamaqua Area School Board named an assistant principal in the senior high school last night.

Robert J. Jamelli of Hazleton was appointed on a 6-2 vote with directors Larry Neff and Richard Miller opposing the action. Neff told the board his “no” vote is not against the candidate, rather, it is because of his longstanding belief the high school does not need an assistant principal.

Jamelli, a teacher at West Hazleton High School for the past 16 years, holds a master’s degree from Bloomsburg University and received his secondary and elementary principal’s certification from Lehigh University.

He has also taught education, history and social studies on a part-time basis at the Luzerne County Community College.
