Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 8

Northern Lehigh and Northwestern fought to a tie in boys soccer action on Thursday, while the Tamaqua girls earned a key victory in a girls contest.

Elsewhere, Panther Valley, Pleasant Valley and Northwestern all posted volleyball wins, while Northern Lehigh’s field hockey team won in overtime.

BOYS SOCCER

Northwestern-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh ended a long losing streak against Northwestern, battling the Tigers to a 1-1 Colonial League tie.

The Bulldogs had lost 31 straight to NW since becoming a program in 2002.

Kellen Bauer gave Nolehi a 1-0 lead. It was his 17th goal of the year, breaking the Bulldogs’ seasonal record of 16 previously held by Logan Berfield.

The Tigers’ Cole Mertz knotted the score later in the half, and both teams were kept off the board the rest of the way.

Notre Dame struck for three goals in the first half, and the Crusaders went on to a 6-3 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Logan Stroup scored Palmerton’s only goal, while Dylan White had 11 saves.

Sawyer Hoffman registered Lehighton’s lone goal, while Peyton Ginder and Brady Litchauer combined for 16 saves.

Cayden Lui scored a pair of goals for Southern Lehigh.

Zac Grosse had a goal, while Braeden Whittacker had 10 saves for Jim Thorpe.

Tamaqua ran its winning streak to five games with a 2-1 Schuylkill League upset of Pine Grove.

Evelyn Leinbach got the Raiders on the board first with a penalty kick. Pine Grove answered with a goal by Willow Umbenhauer to tie it in the first half.

Avery Muffley scored the winner in the second half on a header off a corner kick from Shaylee Gormley.

Sophia Sitlinger had 11 saves for Tamaqua, which clinched a district playoff berth.

Sophia Paton collected 10 kills and four blocks, while Jaelynn Browdy tallied 12 kills, 18 assists and six digs.

Danika Blazosky added 10 kills, 25 assists and eight digs.

Kenzie Tobin also contributed 36 assists in the win.

Lila Borger added seven kills and 22 digs.
