Dinner is served

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is holding its next West End Missions dinner at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Rummage sale

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 164 Merwinsburg Road, Effort, is holding a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Items for sale include clothes — shoes and coats, ladies, men’s, children, and household items such as toys, books, knickknacks, etc., depending on what is donated.

The church kitchen will be open for lunch, and baked goods also will be for sale.

Special program

The Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will welcome Colette Levinstein from Goldenbee Senior Concierge Service at 10:30 a.m. Friday. She will present “The Importance of Strength, Movement, and Balance as We Age.”

To attend center events, participants must be registered members; to sign up, call Mara at 570-420-3743. Additionally, registration is required two weeks in advance for special events and activities. For meal reservations, call one day in advance by 10 a.m. For the Jewish Resource Center in Stroudsburg only, reserve by Sunday for Thursday. A donation is asked for lunch.

Fall Festival

The Monroe County Conservation District is hosting a fall festival from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Kettle Creek Environmental Center. It will include “creative crafts, exciting games and nighttime adventures.”

Participants will embark into the dark with a thrilling hike where “the secrets of nocturnal animals and their unique adaptations” will be discovered.

The night will end with s’mores and stories around the campfire.

Participants are asked to dress in an appropriate fall theme or a Halloween costume and bring flashlights.

There is a cost. Preregistration, which can be done at mcconservation.org, is required. Register for each person attending, but children under 3 are free and don’t require registration.

Nature walk

The traditional Nature Walk, as scheduled by Salem-St. Paul Lutheran in Kresgeville, will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Van Buskirk Haney Park in Saylorsburg.

A correction

From Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, comes a correction concerning its “Gathered in Gratitude” announcement on a previous flyer.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 14.

Children are welcome is the reminder.

‘Meet the Artist’ event

Claudia Hill and Joan Lech will be the featured artists at the Kettle Creek Environmental Eduction Center’s “Meet the Artist” event being held Saturday.

They will be there from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with their show “Inspired by Nature.”

The exhibit will “showcase a variety media they use to create their unique work.”

Their work will been displayed through Nov. 30.

The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and will also be open Saturdays on Oct. 10, Oct. 24, Nov. 7 and Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There is no charge for this program and preregistration is not required.

Sportsmen Day

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is holding Sportsmen Day from 12:30-4 p.m. Sunday at its home at 122 Gun Club Lane, Saylorsburg.

Tickets will have 33 prizes, plus two door prizes, and include refreshments from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Doors open at 11 a.m. Raffles are ongoing throughout the day.

The public is welcome.

Driver safety

• Mrs. Bush’s Personal Care Home, 302 Kunkletown Road, Kunkletown, is hosting the two-part, eight-hour AARP Driver Safety Course.

The course will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on consecutive Mondays, Oct. 12 and Oct. 19.

• The Monroe County Public Safety Center at 100 Gypsum Road, Stroudsburg, is hosting the two-part, eight-hour AARP Driver Safety Course.

The course will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 27 and noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 28.

A four-hour refresher course is also being offered.

Soup sale set

Effort UMC has announced its October soup sale. Being offered are minestrone with sausage and cream of cheddar soups.

Orders will be accepted through Oct. 21. The pickup date Oct. 25.

Grief support

The Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville hosts a monthly bereavement support group facilitated by the St. Luke’s University Health Network. The next meeting is from 1-2:30 p.m. Oct. 14. Preregistration is required. Call 484-526-2499 to register. Meetings will be held when three or more are registered.

New ministry

Our Lady Queen Peace Church, Brodheadsville, begins a new ministry Saturday. “Little Hearts, Big Love” will be a special time for parents/guardians to join with the children during family adoration at 10 a.m. every second Saturday in the chapel.

Centers’ wish list

All Monroe County Senior Centers are accepting the following donations: board games, blank greeting cards, acrylic paints, blank canvases, holiday decorations, paperware and party goods.

Fellowship set

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will have a time of fellowship after the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday, beginning at 10:15 a.m.

Plans are underway at the church to host a Fine Arts Showcase and Craft Fair Expo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 14.

Medicare enrollment

Medicare Open Enrollment is being held from Oct. 15 through Dec. 17. Free counseling will be available during that time period. Call the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging at 570-420-3735 for an appointment.

Garden planting

The Garden of Giving has announced it needs volunteers to plant garlic starting at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 17.

Closing day of the garden is Nov. 1.

The garden is located in McMichaels at 2556 Rising Hill Road, Saylorsburg, off Route 715.

The season’s final Brodheadsville Farmers Market at Zion Lutheran Church will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 17.

Dinner pickup

If you ordered turkey dinner or dinners from Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kresgeville, remember that order pickup is from 4-5:30 p.m. Oct. 17.

Bird seed sale

Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced its deadline for participating in its first truckload wild bird seed sale of the season.

Ordering deadline is Oct. 20. The sale is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 24.

Cemetery tour

The Chestnuthill Township Historical Society is hosting a tour of the Old Brodheadsville Cemetery at 3 p.m. Nov. 1.

There is a cost per person. However, CTHA members and children under the age of 15 may attend for free.
