Baer, Moser score Mahoning victories

Nick Baer and Jon Moser highlighted a busy night of racing at Mahoning Valley Speedway, while championships also began to take shape as the season winds down.

Baer grabbed the early lead and went on to capture the 30-lap 602 Modified feature, a victory that also left him as the division’s champion.

The feature got off to a wild start when Makayla Kohler, Max Pfeifer and Bobby Jones made contact on the opening lap. Kohler took the brunt of the incident and needed a double hook to return her car to the pits, ending her night.

Once the race resumed, Baer stayed out front and ultimately took the checkered flag ahead of Jones. Kevin Brown finished third, with Pfeifer recovering from the opening-lap incident to place fourth.

Moser made an aggressive move pay off at the start of the 30-lap Street Stock feature. He went three-wide underneath polesitter Cody Geist on the opening lap to grab the lead and never surrendered it.

It wasn’t an uncontested run for Moser, however, as championship contenders Frankie Althouse, Adam Steigerwalt and Jill Snyder applied pressure throughout the event. Moser kept all three behind him to secure his second victory of the season. Althouse finished second, followed by Steigerwalt and Snyder.

The Hobby Stock feature produced another tight battle at the front.

Travis Solomon held off points leader Shayne Geist and Ryan Berger to collect his fourth victory of the season. The top three spent much of the race battling in close quarters, making contact on multiple occasions without bringing out a caution.

Solomon eventually prevailed over Geist and Berger, while James Tout and Devin Schmidt completed the top five.

Bobby Kibler Sr. added another victory to his strong Pro 4 season, taking the 20-lap feature ahead of Mark Fister. It was Kibler’s fifth victory of the season, tying his son, Bobby Kibler Jr., for the most wins in the division.

Jasper Zeigafuse also had plenty to celebrate after mastering heavy traffic to capture the East Coast TQ Midget Modern feature.

Zeigafuse remained out front while Tyler Wagner and Kye Hereve battled through traffic behind him. Wagner finished second, but Zeigafuse’s victory secured his first ECTQM championship aboard the Blu Metz-owned No. 2.

Vinny Testinaro rounded out the night’s feature winners by taking the Vintage TQ event ahead of Ed Windt and Billy Fisher.
