Quilt Bingo raises nearly $2,500 for library
Proceeds from a recent fundraiser has netted the Palmerton Area Library nearly $2,500.
The Sew What Quilt Guild hosted its Quilt Bingo Sept. 20 at the Aquashicola Fire Company, 270 Little Gap Road, Palmerton.
Each bingo prize was a quilted item, such as place mats, table runners and wall hangings.
The coverall prize pictured will be an America250 commemorative queen size (92-inches wide by 92-inches long) quilt that was assembled by Barbara Herman and long arm quilted by Mary Jane Klenk.
Proceeds from the event benefited the Palmerton Area Library and the Sew What Quilt Guild.
On Friday, members of the Sew What Quilt Guild presented the library with a check in the amount of $2,462.
Christine DeSousa, library director, said it’s a great partnership between the two entities.
“The quilt ladies work very hard to get the quilt and prizes together,” DeSousa said. “The collaboration between the two organizations has always been fantastic.”
DeSousa said the donation will go toward the library’s general operations.
Terri Sheckler, president of the Sew What Quilt Guild, noted that the organization uses the library for its meetings.
“We raise money for the library through the Quilt Bingo,” Sheckler said. “It’s just a thank you for letting us use this (facility).”
The Sew What Quilt Guild has about 50 members, and is always in search of new members.
The group generally holds its meetings at 10 a.m. on the first Friday of each month at the Palmerton Area Library.
