A construction project recently begun in Lansford will bring an innovative service to the area with the debut of its first drive-thru prescription drug center.

The project is that of the Rite Aid Pharmacy located off West Bertsch Street.

Julia Leonzi of Summit Hill, in partnership with her sons, Joseph Jr. of Hometown and Dr. Al of Allentown, who owns the building, said the pharmaceutical company approached them about the need for additional space at the facility.

As a result, the construction plan calls for excavation of bank located to the east of Rite Aid and the construction of a 24-by-122-foot addition to the east side of the current building that will include a two-bay drive-thru center at the southern end of the building.
