State police at the Hazleton barracks reported the following crashes:

• Justin M. Mirabal, 32, of Tamaqua, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance following a two-vehicle crash at 8:48 a.m. Aug. 12 on Interstate 81 in Hazle Township.

Police said the crash occurred as Pierra Belanger, 65, of Verreault, Quebec, Canada, was driving a 2026 Freightliner south when he attempted to merge into the left lane when it was unsafe to do so. They said the Freightliner sideswiped a 2021 Acura driven by Mirabal.

Police said that during the crash investigation evidence of DUI was observed on the scene pertaining to Mirabal. He was taken to the barracks for chemical testing.

Police said the Freightliner had minor damage, while the Acura sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

• William R. Lech Jr., 33, of Weatherly, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a two-vehicle crash at 1 p.m. Sept. 8 on Quakake Road, Packer Township. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2019 Ram 2500 eastbound at a speed greater than prudent when it struck a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Paul W. Bray, 66, of Weatherly, as he was beginning to enter a driveway.

Police said the Ram was towed from the scene.
