No one was injured after a pair of mobile homes caught fire at late Thursday night at a resort in Franklin Township.

Township fire Chief Lynn Diehl said firefighters were dispatched at around 11 p.m. to Sunny Rest Resort, 425 Sunny Rest Dr., for multiple structures on fire.

Diehl said two mobile homes were on fire, and a car was destroyed.

He said the occupant of the structure of origin was home but was not injured.

Diehl said the mobile homes are a total loss.

He said it took firefighters over two hours to knock the fire down.

“Everything needed to be supplied by tankers,” Diehl said. “(The area is) a little more isolated, little more difficult to get around.”

As part of that, Diehl said they had to wait for PPL to arrive on scene, as there were some live electric lines that hindered cleanup efforts.

He said the cause of the fire is believed to have started in the heating system of the owner’s mobile home.

Diehl said firefighters were on scene for about three hours.

He said also assisting at the scene were the Aquashicola Fire Department, Bowmanstown Fire Department, and Palmerton Fire Department, with Parryville Fire Department and East Penn Township Fire Department also called to assist with tankers.

“It was a total loss; nothing to be saved by the time we got there,” Diehl said. “Everybody worked well together as we normally do.”
