A total of 978 cases were started in August in the Carbon County Prothonotary’s Office, according to a monthly statistical report issued by Kayla M. Semmel, the officeholder.

A breakdown of the cases includes: civil actions, 72; civil appeals, 2; court rules, 1; judgments, 777; custody complaints, 7; district justice appeals, 8; divorce complaints, 14; complaints in ejectment, 5; landlord/tenant appeals, 3; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 12; complaints in replevin, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 24; PFSVI cases, 2; stipulations/waivers of liens, 11; mental health cases, 11; miscellaneous cases, 2; quiet title actions, 1; complaints to modify custody, 10; and writs of execution, 15.

Semmel reported total income generated in the office in August amounted to $46,442.59 and included: prothonotary fees, $37,918.98; data processing fees, $7,455.19; interest income, $461.90; PFA surcharge sheriff, $59.26; PFA surcharge courts, $59.2; and stenographer fees, $488.

The prothonotary also remitted $925 to the county in remote access fees and $6,635 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Revenue (fees collected on new cases). She deposited $2,131.85 in the office’s automation fund for future automation and improvements to the office and turned over $51.85 to the state in tax money on passport photos taken in the office.

In August, the office staff processed 34 new and 19 renewal passports and took 61 passport photographs.
