The Weatherly Area School Board recently approved accepting an anonymous donation to settle unpaid lunch balances for graduated seniors for June 2026. The amount donated was $619.50.

“A big shout out to Ty (board member Tyree Harris) for taking the lead on this and getting us a donor, and thank you to the anonymous donor,” board member William Knepper said.

Speaking for the Personnel and Policy Department, Knepper reported that they are continuing to work on an update to Policy 123.1, related to the Sports Department. More information on that will be released.

“We’ve been doing interviews for business manager, and we look forward to finding out what’s going to come of that,” Knepper said.

Edward Rarick submitted his resignation from the post earlier this month. His last day will be Oct. 13. He is leaving to become the business manager at the Career Institute of Technology in Easton.

From the Athletic Department, school board director Ryan Binder reported that the fall sports season is in progress with volleyball, football and cross country moving along well.

“Cross country is doing very well,” Binder said. “We have a young team. There’s a lot of young, very high performing students in the freshman class, so the next few years for cross country is exciting.”

Binder also noted that he saw a video of a Hazleton Area football game; the district has a cooperative sports agreement in which eligible Weatherly students can play football for Hazleton.

“I believe I saw one of our players carry the ball into the end zone in a video posted online for football, so that’s pretty cool,” Binder said. “I believe we got at least two players out on the field regularly there.”

Also at the meeting, board member James Provizzi reported that the district is accepting bids on a used plow truck.

“Our other truck is not in good shape,” he said, “so we hope to have bids for another truck in by the 18th of September.”

The board has a notice on the district website that says Weatherly Area is “taking sealed bids for the purchase and delivery of one used heavy-duty pickup truck (F250/equivalent or larger) with a plow or the ability to be outfitted with a plow package.”

There are no plans yet for the old truck.
