Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 11

Sophia Schaffer’s hat trick highlighted Northwestern’s 3-0 victory over Notre Dame-Green Pond in a battle of District 11 Class 2A girls soccer contenders Friday, while Northern Lehigh picked up its first field hockey win with a 2-0 shutout of Lehighton.

Lehighton-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 Colonial League victory over Lehighton.

McKenzie Chruscial and Ada Porobenski scored for the Bulldogs, with Bella Barone assisting on Chruscial’s goal and Addison Overholt setting up Porobenski’s score.

The teams finished even with seven shots on goal apiece, while Lehighton held a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners. Northern Lehigh made five saves to preserve the shutout.

Northwestern-Notre Dame GP

Sophia Schaffer recorded a hat trick to power Northwestern to a 3-0 Colonial League victory over Notre Dame-Green Pond in a matchup of the top two teams in the District 11 Class 2A power ratings.

Schaffer scored twice in the first half and added another goal after the break. Juliet Snyder, Amelia Glassberg and Lexi Kercher each contributed an assist for the Tigers.

Northwestern goalkeeper Brystol Hamm made three saves to record the shutout.

Aubrey Frable scored four goals and Avery Barry had a hand in six scores as Palmerton rolled to a 13-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua Thursday.

Barry finished with three goals and three assists for the Blue Bombers, while Harper Lake and Addison Buck each scored twice. Rachel Yaroslavsky and Kate Fritz also found the back of the net.

Yaroslavsky added three assists, while Lake and Buck each contributed two. Fritz also had an assist.

Palmerton 13, Catasauqua 0

Nazareth-Pleasant Valley

Unbeaten Nazareth jumped out to a six-goal halftime lead and went on to post a 9-0 victory over Pleasant Valley in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Despite the loss, Pleasant Valley goalkeeper Haley Ott turned away 25 shots.

The Blue Eagles held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Pleasant Valley-Nazareth

Pleasant Valley battled back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 tie with Nazareth in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

The Blue Eagles jumped in front behind a pair of first-half goals from Evan Crescenzo, the first off an assist from Chris Samson.

Richon Russ got the Bears on the board before halftime, converting an Aiden Granda assist to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Pleasant Valley completed the comeback in the second half when Christian Pinheiro found the back of the net off an assist from Adrien Szyszko to pull the Bears even.

Pleasant Valley finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots on goal and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Nazareth goalkeeper Owen Moyer made nine saves, while Pleasant Valley’s Cole Clark stopped six shots.

ACC-Pleasant Valley

Allentown Central Catholic topped Pleasant Valley 3-1 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

After dropping the opening set, the Bears responded with a 25-17 victory in the second to even the match. The Vikettes edged Pleasant Valley 26-24 in a tight third set before closing out the match with a 25-11 win in the fourth.

Isabella Slizewski paced the Pleasant Valley attack with 11 kills and three blocks, while Kira Hnat handed out 21 assists to go along with seven digs and an ace. Lila Borger added five kills and six digs, while Sasha Slozina recorded four kills and eight digs.

Mya Williams contributed 11 digs, two aces and two assists, while Emmerson Deluna added nine digs.
