A Mahoning Township pair faces charges in a dispute at their home in late August.

Joshua George, 23, and Abigail Esterly, 22, of Lower Nis Hollow Drive, were charged in the Aug. 21 incident involving a rifle.

George, who was initially incarcerated, was released on $100,000 bail on Aug. 28. He was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and driving while license was suspended or revoked.

Esterly remains in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $100,000 bail. She was also charged with aggravated and simple assault, as well as reckless endangerment.

According to state police, they responded to the home just after 5 p.m. and met Esterly who was outside with her three children. She told officers that George, the father of her children, struck her in the face with a rifle and left, court papers said.

Troopers conducted a traffic stop on George a little more than an hour later and took him into custody. He told troopers that he gave the rifle to his mother, who later surrendered it to officers, court papers said.

The .22-caliber rifle with a wooden stock was loaded with 14 rounds, and broken into two pieces, which George said happened during the incident, court papers said.

George produced a video of a portion of the incident showing Esterly pointing the rifle at George from the top of the porch, court papers said. An altercation occurs on the porch, and the rifle is in one piece, court papers said.

George and Esterly are scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Beth Dodson Oct. 28.
