They’re a husband and wife musical duo that performs virtually any songs from the 1960s up to present day.

IvoryBlu is set to perform from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday on the Main Stage at this year’s Palmerton Community Festival.

Resa and Frank Hall have been playing music together for over 45 years.

“We kind of play anything from the ’60s up through current,” Resa Hall said, adding that includes Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, and more.

For the couple, performing in their own backyard is special.

“It’s really great to get up in front of your hometown,” Resa said. The couple adopted Palmerton as their community when they moved here in 1999 and raised their children here.

“To be able to work at the festival the couple of times we have performed (in the bandstand), we’ve also done caroling in the winter time for Christmas in the Park; it’s our community, it’s our home.”

Aside from their band, Resa said that she and Frank are involved in many activities.

Frank serves as music director at Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Trachsville, while Resa is the chorus director at Palmerton Area High School, which she’s been doing since 2021. Resa also teaches private voice lessons, which she had been doing for nearly 10 years, and is also volunteer music director for the Palmerton High School Drama Club.

“I’ve been working with the youth of Palmerton for at least 10 years either as a school employee or as a volunteer, so I like giving back to our community,” she said.

Resa said Frank is also her accompanist at Palmerton Area High School.

“And we’ve had a band that has accompanied the chorus, and the kids have had a really good time, and it’s kind of brought students that maybe wouldn’t normally join in to activities come in and play music, and gave them an opportunity to play in a band,” she said. “We did a couple concerts that were kind of rock-themed concerts the last couple of years (and) the kids have had a really great time doing it.”

Resa noted that some of her private voice students will be doing the national anthem for the opening of this year’s festival.

Frank and Resa were in several bands together before they decided to start doing the duo about a decade ago.

Nowadays, they play what they like to hear, music from the 1970s and 1980s such as The Eagles, Pat Benatar, Cyndi Lauper and Jefferson Airplane.

“We try to keep the repertoire appealing to a large group of people,” Resa said. “We do a little country, rock ‘n’ roll, pop, some blues. Part of our roots is in the blues; we were in the blues for many years.”

The Palmerton Community Festival is what stuck out to them all those years ago.

“The food is so outrageously good, just the whole community spirit, Palmerton was just such a beautiful and tight-knit community, and it was a great place to raise our children,” Resa said.

“This home in Palmerton is the longest we’ve ever lived anywhere. We just love giving back to the community.”
