Classic country music will never fade from the music scene, at least not if this veteran band of siblings has anything to say about it.

The crowd will surely be brought to their feet when The Rehrig Brothers perform from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday on the Main Stage at this year’s Palmerton Community Festival.

Dave Rehrig said the venue has been a staple for the band to play at for quite a long time.

“We’re always happy that they bring us back,” Rehrig said. “It’s always a great festival, it’s nice to get around.”

Rehrig said the group enjoys the festival a great deal, and takes pride in the positive reaction from the audience.

“It’s great,” he said. “It seems like nowadays they’re tuned into more classic country.”

Rehrig said that as part of their performance, the band plans to tell how The Rehrig Family was able to record at Dolly Parton’s studio in Nashville in 1975.

He said Parton paid to have the songs recorded. They recorded two songs, one of which Rehrig said received widespread airplay.

“What a sweet lady, and so giving,” Rehrig said. “She grew up poor, and she didn’t want to see anyone else poor; if you needed help, she was there.”

Rehrig said they will perform hits from Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, George Strait and George Jones.

“All those classic singers, we love their songs, and the people do, too,” he said. “So far, the biggest response I get is when I say, ‘Do we have any Conway Twitty fans out there,’ and the whole place lights up. It’s very exciting.”

Rehrig said the band has been performing for over six decades, and consists of twin brothers Dave Rehrig (lead vocals) and Dennis Rehrig (steel guitar), along with brother Dean Rehrig (keyboard).

The Rehrig Family formed a band in 1963 with their father, Frank “Pop” Rehrig.

After “Pop” Rehrig retired, the three sons changed the band name to Twitty Fever.

Dave Rehrig also does shows with his wife, Brenda, as the “Dave and Brenda Duo.”
