Palmerton graduate Sydney Frantz continued her strong start to the season Wednesday, scoring the game-winning goal in East Stroudsburg University’s 5-0 victory over Mansfield.

Frantz, a junior forward, put the Warriors ahead late in the first quarter with her second goal in three games this season.

After inserting a penalty corner, Frantz remained near the left post as ESU worked the ball toward the cage. A Mansfield defender attempted to clear it away, but the ball landed in front of Frantz, who knocked it home with one minute remaining in the opening period.

Frantz, the 2023 Times News Field Hockey Player of the Year, also scored in ESU’s season-opening 10-0 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. She has two goals on six shots through three appearances this season, with three shots on goal.

The Palmerton graduate has made the most of her opportunities early in the season. She played 18 minutes against Mansfield and has already surpassed her goal production from last season, when she scored once in 19 appearances.

Her early-season production also continues a steady progression during her career with the Warriors. Frantz appeared in three games as a freshman in 2024 and recorded her first collegiate point with an assist against St. Thomas Aquinas. She broke through for her first college goal last season against Adelphi and has now scored three times in her ESU career.

Frantz arrived at ESU after a standout career at Palmerton, where she established program records with 68 goals and 42 assists. In addition to being named the Times News Field Hockey Player of the Year as a senior in 2023, she helped the Blue Bombers capture a District 11 championship.

Frantz’s goal helped ESU improve to 3-0. The Warriors have outscored their first three opponents 17-1 and did not allow Mansfield to register a shot on goal Wednesday.

ESU will begin a three-game road swing Saturday at Adelphi, where Frantz scored her first collegiate goal last season.
