A Blakeslee church was under lockdown Sunday morning after a White Haven man attempted to gain entry while armed with a Samurai sword.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police responded at 10:56 a.m. to the Pocono Lake Bible Church in the 300 block of Route 940.

At that time, the man, Peter Gershon Wonsia, 30, was asked to leave after refusing to remove the weapon and repeatedly stated that he “cannot leave” and “needed to go in.”

The church went into a lockdown, and Wonsia stayed outside.

Police arrived and made contact with Wonsia, who was in possession of the sword.

Wonsia was detained pending further investigation.

No one was injured during the incident, police said.

Police executed a search warrant at a hotel in Carbon County where Wonsia had been staying.

Wonsia was arraigned on charges of carrying a prohibited offensive weapon, terroristic threats, simple assault by physical menace and disorderly conduct.

Wonsia was taken to the Monroe County Correctional Facility and lodged on these charges in lieu of $25,000 bail.

His preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 8.
