August 31, 2012 — Richie Smith carries 18 times for 215 yards and three touchdowns to power Panther Valley to a 34-6 victory over Mahanoy Area in its season opener. Smith opens the scoring with a 50-yard tally in the opening quarter and doubles the lead in the second with a 25-yard burst to the end zone. He later adds a 59-yard TD run to help seal the win. The Panthers, coached by Lon Hazlet, also receive a pair of scoring tosses from quarterback Matt Levitt. He hits Kyle Ferryman with a 34-yard touchdown pass and also connects with Devon Dilliard for a 15-yard score.
