The Nesquehoning Historical Society is hosting another event in a series of local history presentations as part of Carbon County and Nesquehoning’s America250 Celebration.

Local historian and author Vince Hydro will narrate a visual presentation entitled, “Asa Packer’s People: The Story of the Packer Family.”

There will be two showings, at 6 p.m. on Aug. 31 and again at noon on Sept. 5. Doors open an hour before the presentation to allow for visitors to see the historical society’s museum.

The event will include a visual presentation of the history of the children of Asa and Sarah Packer.

Among many other achievements, Asa Packer was the founder of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, Lehigh University and St. Luke’s Hospital.

In “Asa Packer’s People,” Hydro relates the history of the children of Asa and Sarah Packer, based upon documented sources, and sets those stories against the myths and rumors that have been perpetuated over the years about the family.

Presentations will take place at the NHS Museum, 157 W. Railroad St., Nesquehoning. There is parking available in the lot next to the museum; however, the lot has filled to capacity for recent events.

The event is open to the public free of charge, although donations are appreciated and enable the society to maintain the museum and presentation space.
