Carbon County Against Reassessment (Times News July 28, 2026): “I can confidently say that the three sitting here are not in favor of any kind of reassessment” — Mike Sofranko — Carbon Commissioners chairman.

Commissioners Rocky Ahner, Wayne Nothstein and Mr. Sofranko are against reassessment. Thank God these gentlemen have common sense.

Older adults will suffer the most especially the communities near me in Beaver Meadows that just got whacked with a 68.5% school property tax hit and just last week a 65% increase in our water bill from the Hazleton City Water Authority that serves many communities in Carbon County.

And there’s a hint of a reassessment. Unbelievable, what next?

The article states, “In recent years, several school districts have pushed for a county-wide reassessment for all properties” and if some connected judge forwards a court-ordered reassessment I hope the names listed in this letter and the senior citizens population will fight it.

Underline the three gentleman’s names listed above along with Sen. Dave Argall, State Rep. Doyle Heffley and Dane Watro who are fighting to get us relief from the uncontrollable way schools are funded.

A reassessment right now would wipe some people right out, especially us in Beaver Meadows, Tresckow, Junedale, and Banks Twp.

Like I said, the names listed above in this letter, underline and even highlight them and if any are up for reelection do your pocketbook and stress level some good and don’t hesitate to vote for them when it’s time.

Carbon County Commissioners, thanks for sticking to your guns and sweep this reassessment thing not under the rug, but straight into the garbage can.
