Shayne Geist delivered a fitting victory Saturday night at Mahoning Valley Speedway Park, winning the 40-lap Hobby Stock feature held in memory of his late father, Todd “Hollywood” Geist.

Todd Geist was a longtime fixture in local short-track racing, competing at Dorney Park Speedway, Evergreen Raceway and Mahoning Valley.

His eldest son made the memorial night especially meaningful by holding off Nick Schaffer in a dramatic finish.

Geist built a sizable advantage before lapped traffic allowed Schaffer and Ryan Berger to close late. A caution with two laps remaining set up a green-white-checkered finish, but Geist held on as Schaffer made one final attempt at the pass coming to the flag.

Schaffer finished second, followed by Berger, Devin Schmidt and Trisha Connolly.

A 31-car Hobby Stock field also resulted in a non-qualifiers race won by Bill Rooney.

Jill Snyder captured the other memorial event, taking the 40-lap Street Stock feature.

Tucker Muffley led the first 17 laps before Snyder used the outside lane to take control. A caution on lap 23 erased her advantage, but Snyder remained out front to earn her second victory of the season and a $1,040 payday.

Frankie Althouse finished second and Jon Moser was third.

Championship leader Kyle Strohl won the 35-lap Modified feature after a late red flag for oil on the racing surface. Strohl moved around Jacob Kerstetter following the cleanup and restart to secure the victory. Kerstetter was second and Lou Strohl third.

Cody Kohler led all 20 laps of the Pro 4 feature for his second consecutive victory and 63rd overall career win at Mahoning Valley.

Kohler is now one victory shy of Earl Paules’ track record of 64 career wins. Tyler Stangle finished second and Rich Pursell was third.
