PSP Lehighton - crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Clay F. Andrews, 57, of Kunkletown, was cited for careless driving following a crash at 10:34 p.m. on July 25 in the parking lot of the Franklin Township Fire Department.
Police said he was driving a 2026 Ford F450 at a high rate of speed while attempting to leave an event on the premises when it struck a parked 2017 Ford Escape owned by Robert W. Silfies Jr., 73, of Lehighton.
Police said both vehicles sustained minor damages.
• Shawn P. Thomas Jr., 26, of Pen Argyl, sustained suspected serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 12:14 a.m. on July 11 on Old Route 115 in Ross Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel of the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS Corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg.
They said he was the driver of one of the vehicles. Courtney L. Bartle, 21, of New Britain, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained suspected minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital, while Julian A. Petersen, 19, of Stroudsburg, a passenger in the second vehicle, had suspected minor injuries, but did not require an emergency medical services transport from the scene.
Police said the crash occurred when Thomas was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee north on Old Route 115 when he proceeded to turn left onto Mountain Road without having proper clearance and the Jeep was struck by a 2026 Toyota Highlander operated by Jennifer L. Petersen, 49, of Saylorsburg, who was uninjured in the crash.
Police said the Jeep caught fire after the impact with the Highlander.
A local towing service assisted police at the scene.
Police said Thomas is facing charges as a result of the incident.
