AUGUST 6, 1978

Excitement was in the air at the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, as the first major purchase from the 1977 “Hospital Festival” proceeds was delivered and installed.

The $4,000 Blankentrol Hyper Hypothermia System, equipped with an Automatic Servo Controller, Adult Heavy Duty and Light Field Blanket, Pediatric Heavy Duty and Light Field Blanket and Probe is used to reduce body temperature.

Mrs. Shirley Sheehan, R.N., head nurse in pediatrics, explained it in lay terms: “If a child (or adult) is admitted to the facility and is running a high temperature, upon physician order the patient is place in the blanket until reduction of the temperature is attained.”

James Serfass, hospital festival chairman, said generating festival revenue is “the most satisfying part of our efforts.”
