A Carbon County resident who believes residents are under unconstitutional video surveillance seeks to have Flock cameras removed.

Noah Bryfogle, of Palmerton, addressed Lehighton Borough Council on Monday about the issue of Flock cameras that he said are installed in the Lehighton area.

Bryfogle discussed the automated license plate readers that photograph passing vehicles.

He said there were at least 18 that he knows of in Carbon County, about 15 of which are in the Lehighton area.

Bryfogle noted there are two cameras on borough land, one of each are run by Mahoning and Franklin townships.

He said the borough has license agreements for both of these cameras, and urged the borough to rid itself of them.

Bryfogle told borough council that the borough’s cooperation with this matter would be huge.

Lehighton Borough resident John Dixon said he agrees with Bryfogle’s assertion.

“I would stand by his statement and support it,” Dixon said. “I don’t agree with Flock cameras either.”

Dixon said he specifically is against “this level of invasion of privacy.”

“The police do a wonderful job, we thank you,” he said. “My wife and I want to support (the police department), but this just goes a little too far for us.”
