The Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation wants to educate businesses and agencies about happenings in the county.

Last week, Jared Soto, who left CCEDC on July 24, told commissioners that the third installment of the new series Economic Development Lunch and Learn will take place on Aug. 11 in the Jim Thorpe Borough Office. The event, titled, “Mapping the Future: Planning, Land Use & Economic Development,” is held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Soto said that the series is a way to provide information about various topics to the general public, as well as highlight the work being done in the county.

This installment focuses on how the Planning and Development Office, Open Space Plan and Wildlands Conservancy’s missions align with the county’s Comprehensive Plan and Greenways Trails and Open Space Plans.

“Our offices working together is so crucial and key going forward,” Soto said. “Just the encouragement that you guys have had to promote these kind of things going forward has really been beneficial across our offices to understand what we both do.”

Participants will hear from Kylie Adams-Weiss, senior vice president of CCEDC; Dawn Gorham, director of land preservation for the Wildlands Conservancy; Anna Shigo, the county open space coordinator; and David Bodnar, the county director of planning and development.

They will speak about the process from site selection and development opportunities to land preservation and open space funding.
