The Valley Royale Open wrapped up another successful year over the weekend, raising about $1,500 to benefit the Valley Royale Foundation and its youth tennis programs.

The annual tournament awards half of the entry fee pool to its champions, while the remaining 50 percent supports the Valley Royale Foundation, a local nonprofit that funds community tennis initiatives, including its Kids Tennis Camp.

This year’s singles tournament featured 24 matches on Saturday alone, with organizers alternating men’s and women’s matches throughout the day to create a larger, more engaged crowd of spectators.

Defending champion Gavin Labbadia successfully retained the men’s singles title, defeating East Stroudsburg University head tennis coach Troy Haas in a championship match that came down to a tiebreaker.

On the women’s side, Alexandria Warsing, who plans to continue her tennis career at NCAA Division I Elon University, defeated defending champion Tea Amerise to claim the singles title.

Labbadia, entering his senior year at Moravian University, also serves as an instructor for the Valley Royale Foundation’s Kids Tennis Camp and provides private lessons at the club.

Earlier this month, the Valley Royale Open’s doubles tournament raised $700 despite rain-shortened play. Combined with the singles event, the tournament generated about $1,500, with proceeds helping fund the remaining weeks of the Foundation’s Kids Tennis Camp, which hosts nearly 50 children each Wednesday morning.

Players from Carbon County, the Lehigh Valley, Stroudsburg, Scranton and Quakertown competed throughout the tournament.
