Palmerton Area School Board
The Palmerton Area School District Board of School directors met Tuesday night, taking action on a range of fiscal, personnel and programmatic matters. Approved items include:
• Michele Heydt and Kelli Magarelli as instructional assistants at $19.19 per hour, effective Aug. 18.
• The transfer of Kristy Santee, instructional assistant, from the high school to Towamensing Elementary, retroactive to July 1;
• Frank Hall and Joseph Plechavy as choral accompanists for the 2026-27 school year;
• Felicia Garcia as a substitute teacher, effective July 22;
• A letter of agreement with Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug & Alcohol Commission for the 2026-27 school year;
• A formal agreement with Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers for the PreK Counts program for the 2026-27 school year;
• A letter of agreement with Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 for Title IIA nonpublic programs and services through Sept. 30, 2027;
• A placement agreement with Western Governors University from July 22 through July 21, 2029;
• A psychoeducational evaluation agreement with Central Penn Education Associates for the 2026-27 school year;
• A special education services agreement with Specialized Education of Pennsylvania for Graham Academy for the 2026-27 school year;
• Conference attendance for Assistant Superintendent Ryan Kish to two PASA New Superintendents’ Academy sessions in Harrisburg in September and November, and for board member Kristen Schaible at the PASA-PSBA School Leadership Conference at Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in Pocono Manor in October;
• Second reading and adoption of Policy No. 202 (Eligibility of Nonresident Students), Policy No. 236.1 (Threat Assessment), Policy No. 607 (Tuition Income) and Policy No. 810 (Transportation);
• A revised school calendar for the 2026-27 school year, reflecting a half-day on Dec. 18, and a rescheduled Act 80 Day from April 9 to April 23, 2027.
