Tamaqua police reported on the following incidents:

• Police charged Darren Moyer, 59, of Tamaqua, with illegally inhaling toxic substances following a 2:42 p.m. July 21 incident on the 300 block of North Railroad Street.

Police said they received a call about two men “huffing balloons” inside a parked vehicle.

Officers approached the car and saw a man, later identified as Moyer, inhaling a blue balloon, which he quickly deflated.

Police found a gas cylinder labeled “exotic whip” in the car, and Moyer admitted to filling the balloon with gas from that cylinder.

• Julia Turgeon, 20, of Tamaqua, was cited for disorderly conduct following incidents on July 22.

The first call came at 5:52 p.m. when Turgeon was arguing with a man at the Burger King parking lot, police said.

Police advised the two to go home and figure out their differences.

At 7:35 p.m., police were called to an apartment on the 300 block of East Broad Street and said they found that Turgeon was throwing items out a window and yelling.

• John Moser, 62, of Tamaqua, was jailed on charges that he choked and assaulted a woman at 5:36 p.m. July 22.

According to police, officers were called to the 300 block of Orwigsburg for a domestic incident. Police spoke to the woman, who said she was lying down when Moser got on top of her and choked her for 2½ minutes.

She added that on July 21, Moser had grabbed her by the arm and threw her against a wall.

Police said the woman had marks around her neck and a bruise on her arm.

Moser was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker on charges of strangulation, simple assault and harassment and committed to the Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

• Police charged Robin Backhus, 66, of Lansford, with possession of a controlled substance while she was a patient at St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale.

Police said they were called by hospital staff, who said that Backhus came to the emergency room around 10:38 p.m. July 22.

As per hospital policy, staff searched the purse and found a clear crystal substance inside. Police identified the substance as methamphetamine.
