The East Penn Township Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of a new dump truck and addressed residents’ questions about the possibility of data centers during its recent meeting.

The board approved the purchase of a 2026 Ram 5500 chassis for $73,881 and a dump body for $53,352.98 from The Auto Mart in Tunkhannock.

During public comment, resident Kathy Henderson asked whether the township had reviewed Kidder Township’s data center ordinance that she provided at the previous meeting.

Township Manager Jillyan Sterling said the ordinance had been forwarded to the township engineer for review.

Henderson also asked if the township had signed any agreements related to a data center project.

“No,” Sterling replied.

Henderson, who serves as East Penn Township’s tax collector, also requested that residents be able to pay their taxes online through a link on the township website.

Township Secretary Victoria Johnson said the township could add the link.

Board Chairman John Strockoz announced the township has vacancies on its zoning and recreation and parks boards and encouraged residents to volunteer.

Other business

• Granted conditional approval for the minor subdivision of property owned by Barbara A. and Terrance M. McCullion, including approval to subdivide a parcel into three lots and defer sections of the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance.

• Approved signing a cooperation agreement with the East Penn Fire Company.

• Authorized the release of $27,580 from the capital account to the East Penn Fire Company.

• Authorized the township engineer to complete forms for Gibson-Thomas Engineering and A.D. Marble Engineering related to the Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge replacement project.

• Authorized offering a full-time road crew position requiring a commercial driver’s license to the board’s third-ranked candidate, with the first-ranked candidate serving as the alternate. The position includes a 90-day probationary period and compensation under the township’s 2026 salary schedule.

• Approved a one-year renewal of the Blue Ridge Cable Technologies cable franchise agreement through Resolution 2026-10.

• Supervisor Dennis Pearson reminded residents that the township’s boat launch has become increasingly crowded while Beltzville Lake is closed.

• Following the meeting, Township Secretary Victoria Johnson administered the oath of office to Jeremy Brown, the newest member of the East Penn Fire Department Fire Police. The township also unveiled its new East Penn Township flag.
