Parryville Mayor Tom Kobal swore in the newest member of borough council, Ashley Mueller, at the start of the regular council meeting Monday in at borough hall.

The council also unanimously voted to end its contract with PAMS for solid waste billing.

Council President Jason Smith said, “We did a better job ourselves” when it came to collecting waste debts. When a house is sold, “the bill goes with the property and not the person,” Smith said, explaining that new homeowners are having to pay the waste debts of previous owners.

In his remarks, Smith said that the borough needs to “start spending the money” from its million-dollar grants for the borough building and fire station because a “timeline is attached to each of them.” The first step was approving Administrator Nicole Beckett’s recommendation to allow Keystone Consulting Engineers to “conduct a site survey at an amount not to exceed $5,000.”

Also at the meeting:

• Council approved selling the borough’s 2010 Ford F-550 on Municibid, with a minimum bid of $3,000.

• Council voted to move its regular August meeting from Aug. 17 to Aug. 31. Meeting time is 6 p.m.

• Monica Kunkle reported that the Parryville Fire Company “had a successful picnic” and that the fire company’s golf tournament is scheduled for Aug. 22. She added the company is still accepting sponsors and teams.

Additionally, the company’s funnel cake stand will be operating at Weisstock on Sept. 4 and 5, Kunkle said.
