Richard Ubel, 54, of Upper Black Eddy, has been arrested by state police at the Fern Ridge barracks after a Pennsylvania Instant Check System check showed he is unable to purchase a firearms.

Police said the arrest stems from an attempt last year by Ubel to buy a Smith & Wesson M&P 40, 40-mm pistol from Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitter, 1471 Rt. 209, Chestnuthill Township.

Police said he completed the application/record of sale and firearms transaction record and was denied the purchase after the background check was completed.
