Carbon County Prothonotary

A total of 682 cases were started in June in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Kayla M. Semmel, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the new cases is as follows:

Civil actions, 60; judgments, 516; custody complaints, 8; district justice appeals, 4; divorce complaints, 22; complaint in ejectment, 1; license appeals, 3; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 7; protection from abuse petitions, 22; stipulations/waivers of liens, 4; mental health cases, 9; name change petitions, 4; quiet title action, 1; custody modification petitions, 8; and writs of execution, 10.

Semmel reported income generated in the office last month amounted to $33,829.01. It included: prothonotary’s fees, $27,156.60; custody/divorce fees, $824.90; data processing fees, $4,318.40; interest income, $262.36; and stenographer fees, $1,266.75.

The prothonotary also remitted $700 to the county in fees for the Remote Access Fund; $5,422.99 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, in fees collected on new cases; and deposited $1,165 in the office’s Automation Fund for future automation and improvement costs.

Semmel turned over $33.15 to the state in taxes collected on passport photos taken in the office. There were 39 passport photos taken.
