Man steals motorcycle, flees from police

Timothy Morales, 33, of Tamaqua, was committed to the Carbon County Correction Facility on charges that he stole a motorcycle and tried to flee from law enforcement.

According to state police at Lehighton, troopers were dispatched to Fireline Road in Bowmanstown around 7 a.m. July 7 for a theft of a motor vehicle.

The victim told troopers that he knew his Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle was securely parked in his driveway the evening before. When he awoke, the bike was gone.

As police were entering information about the stolen vehicle, the victim reported at 8:55 a.m. that he saw two men pushing a motorcycle along the railroad tracks near Route 248 in the area of Parryville.

Troopers visited the area and saw a man, later identified as Morales, pushing a motorcycle near tracks next to White Street in Bowmanstown. When the man spotted troopers, he dropped the motorcycle and ran into a wooded area. Despite multiple commands to stop, Morales continued running.

Troopers deployed a stun gun and were able to subdue Morales, who continued to resist arrest while being placed in handcuffs.

Police said Morales refused to give his name to troopers, and when he was taken to St. Luke’s Carbon for treatment, he refused to identify himself to staff.

A fingerprint scanner determined Morales’ identity, police said.

Troopers noted that a backpack he dropped while being chased contained instruments that he used to steal the motorcycle.

Morales was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge William Kissner on charges of receiving stolen property, flight to avoid apprehension, obstruction of justice, evading arrest or detention on foot, resisting arrest and tamper with/fabricate physical evidence.

Morales was unable to post $150,000 straight cash bail.
