The Pennsylvania American Legion, at its 74th annual state convention last week in Monroeville, a suburb of Pittsburgh, named the Times News its daily newspaper of the year for 1991.

Times News Managing Editor Bob Urban attended the convention and received the award from Philadelphia Legionnaire Joe Kelly, who chaired the public relations committee for the event.

The paper was nominated for the award by Post 172, Nesquehoning, for its extensive local coverage of Legion events and its coverage of local service men and women and their families during the Gulf War last year.

Jack McLaughlin of Post 172 had compiled clippings he put in a scrapbook that he and Ed Watkins of the post presented with the award nomination.
