Initiative results in dozens of citations

State police at the Hazleton barracks have reported the results of a DUI checkpoint initiative they conducted over the Fourth of July weekend on roads in Carbon and lower Luzerne counties.

Police said officers issued 51 traffic citations and seven written warnings for violations of the state Motor Vehicle Code.

One motorist was cited for operating a vehicle without the required ignition interlock, while three motorists were interviewed but released after having passed standardized field sobriety tests.
