State police at Lehighton - crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Two vehicles were damaged in a crash at 5:08 p.m. July 6 on Route 209 in Polk Township.
Police said a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 struck the back of a 2025 Kia Seltos that had slowed down due to traffic in front of it.
Police did not identify the drivers of the vehicles.
• John F. Heimbach Jr., 66, and Janice DeLeon, 67, both of Coaldale, had minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 4:57 p.m. July 4 on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township.
Police said they were transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
Police said the crash occurred as Yong Y. Gu, 42, of Brooklyn, New York, was driving a 2015 Ford Explorer when he attempted to turn left out of a parking lot and struck a 2021 Lincoln driven south on Route 903 by Heimbach, with DeLeon as his passenger. Police said both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the scene.
Gu and two passengers, Lili Huang, 40, and a 9-year-old boy, both from Brooklyn, were uninjured. Gu was cited after the crash, according to police.
• Jared A. Hawk, 36, of Kunkletown, was involved in a two-vehicle crash at 2:24 p.m. July 3 on Mountain View Drive, Polk Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg.
They said the crash occurred when Kimberly B. Meckes, 47, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox that entered the intersection with Silver Springs Boulevard without proper clearance and was struck head-on by a northbound 1999 Harley-Davidson Sportster operated by Hawk.
Police said that after the initial impact, the motorcycle came to an uncontrolled stop on the left shoulder of the road, while the Equinox came to rest on the right shoulder of Silver Spring Boulevard.
Police said Meckes was uninjured.
• Luisa Fajardo Rodriguez, 25, of Effort, and Matthew A. Hoffman, 26, of Saylorsburg, were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 3:53 p.m. July 2 at the intersection of Weir Mountain and Old Stagecoach roads, Polk Township.
Police said the severity of their injuries are unknown. They said Fajardo Rodriguez was transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Monroe Campus, Stroudsburg, while Hoffman did not require an emergency medical services transport from the scene.
They said the crash occurred when Fajardo Rodriguez was driving a 2025 Subaru Outback that proceeded into the intersection without stopping for a stop sign when it was struck by a 2016 GMC Savana operated by Hoffman.
Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.’
Fajardo Rodriguez was cited after the crash, according to police.
